Beets update

If someone had told me 20 years ago that cooked beets just taste like corn, but purple and with a hint of dirt flavor, I would have been eating them this whole time. I like beets! I'm not afraid to say it, people. Beets are delicious, and I like them. And my weird dinner isn't so weird, after all. It looked quite traditional on the plate.

You've inspired me to record our haul from this weekend's farmer's market-trawling in Providence:

The photo isn't as artful as yours, but I did my best. Unlike you, I appreciate eggplants, and how could I resist the knobby, semitic-nose-looking varieties we encountered? (Well, they don't look like my semitic nose, which more closely resembles a tomato, but you know what I mean.) The mushroom was Andy's contribution; personally, I'm always suspicious of mushrooms. I was tempted to get some beets, but wasn't sure what to do with them. Maybe I'll get some next week. The peaches are as good as they look. They almost make up for the end of cherry season. Almost.
